Welcome Home

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Columbus, Georgia, the building was constructed in 1868 as a schoolhouse to educate the African American community following the Civil War. This school eventually became part of the Muscogee County Public School System and its campus was expanded in 1921. The campus was expanded again in the 1940s and reconstructed in 1958 when, sadly, the original 1868 structure was destroyed by fire. Two buildings from the first half of the 20th century remain intact.  Now known as Claflin School Apartments, this 44 Unit/2 story facility was converted in 2020 as an affordable family community. With a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom floor plans, each apartment includes an open and spacious living area, modern fully-equippied kitchen with abundant cabinetry, washer/dryer connections and more!

A variety of retail, service, and recreational opportunities are within easy walking distance and there are 3 parks within 6 miles of the community, as well as the Coca-Cola Space Science Center, Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center, and Columbus Botanical Garden. Sitting on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, downtown Columbus offers a variety of historic sites and a quiet, laid-back atmosphere. One “must visit” is Heritage Corner, where five restored homes stand as symbols of Georgia’s history. One of the most famous of these is the home of Dr. John Pemberton, the inventor of Coca-Cola. Locals spend their time in the Uptown District, which features a friendly vibe. The weekly Farmers Market is held from April through November, providing Columbus residents with fresh produce, baked goods, and a variety of handmade items. For these reasons, and many more, contact us to learn how you can make Claflin School Apartments the place you want to be!
